Did you know that radon gas is a serious health risk and is found in many Lake County homes? Exposure to radon gas is the number one cause of lung cancer among non-smokers and is responsible for 20,000 deaths annually in the U.S. Because radon gas is invisible and odorless, it is easy to forget about. Fortunately, testing for radon is easy and is now also free in Lake County while supplies last.
Cloud City Conservation Center and Lake County Public Health Agency have once again teamed up to provide free radon test kits to Lake County residents. You can pick up your test kit at C4’s office (130 W. 5th St. Room 121) or at the Lake County Public Health Agency (112 W 5th St.).
Please keep in mind that your demographic information will be recorded as part of a Regional Radon Awareness Grant Project. These results will assist mapping radon levels in your region, as well as provide environmental health staff contact information in order to provide you with supplemental radon information and recommendations.
